The leadership skills that girls gain through sports are unparalleled.

For twenty years, SGS students have not had a large community space or a gym. It will be a game-changer to have one. This facility would mean that events previously held all over the region in rental spaces would be centered on our campus, saving both time and money. Students and families could come together to support our students and cheer them on.

As students enter our school, they are embraced by an intentional and authentic experience made possible by the strong connections we create with each other. One significant missing piece of our sense of community has been a space large enough to hold everyone and support all of our programs:

  • All-school Assembly

  • Performance Arts

  • Student Workshops

  • Academic Culminations

  • Talent Show

  • Science Fair

  • Athletic Banquet

  • Graduation

CALL IT A GYM, A GATHERING PLACE, OR AN EMPOWERMENT HUB: IT WILL BE THE HEART AND SOUL OF SGS.

The Challenges of Not Having a Gym

Finding court space in Seattle is intensely competitive and expensive. Because we don’t have our own athletic facilities, families and coaches are called upon to drop off and pick up students at other gyms, at inconvenient locations and times. It is not unusual for our students to spend 45-60 minutes traveling to and from their practice locations. In fact, sometimes they spend more time commuting to other gyms than playing on the court. Without our own gym, we cannot build a program that meets the athletic needs of our students.

It's heartbreaking for me. We are one of the schools that has the higest participation in sports, and we do not have a gym.

– April Lorenzo, Athletic Director

Nearing the Finish Line!

Due to escalating construction costs and the impending expiration of our Master Use Permit, the decision has been made to commence construction. Over the years, we've garnered significant support from our dedicated donors. With just $750,000 left to reach our goal, we anticipate initiating construction in March while we finalize our fundraising efforts. Achieving this milestone will require the collective support of our entire community. Let's work together to bring this project to fruition!

THIS FACILITY WILL COMPLETE THE SGS CAMPUS.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OUR HISTORY, WE WILL HAVE THE SPACE TO PLAY AND GATHER AS A FULL, INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY.

I owe so much of my success and the way I've been able to advocate for and apply myself to my time being a student athlete at SGS.
